HPRCA JOA IT Typing Test: Speed Requirement & Preparation Guide

If you are preparing for the HPRCA Junior Office Assistant (IT) post or the HP High Court Clerk exam, clearing the written test is only half the battle. The typing skill test is equally important and is qualifying in nature, meaning you must pass it to be considered for final selection.

Typing Speed Requirements

  • English Typing: A minimum speed of 30 Words Per Minute (WPM) is required.
  • Hindi Typing (Optional/Alternative): A minimum speed of 25 Words Per Minute (WPM) is required (Kruti Dev or Mangal font).

How is the Test Conducted?

The typing test is generally conducted on computers provided by the examination authority. For JOA IT and HP High Court exams, candidates are usually given a printed sheet of paper containing a passage of around 300 to 500 words. You will have exactly 10 minutes to type as much of the passage as possible.

Important Rules & Error Calculation

In Himachal Pradesh govt typing exams, accuracy is strictly monitored. Full mistakes include omitted words, substituted words, and spelling errors. Half mistakes include spacing errors, capitalization errors, and punctuation errors. It is highly recommended to maintain an accuracy of above 95% to comfortably clear the 30 WPM threshold after error deductions.

Tips to Pass the Exam

  • Practice using a physical keyboard, preferably a standard desktop keyboard, as laptop keyboards feel different.
  • Do not look at the keyboard while typing (Touch Typing). Keep your eyes fixed on the screen or the printed paper.
  • Practice "Hard Mode" on this tool to get used to typing dates (e.g., 24-10-2023), Memo numbers (e.g., Ref. No. HP-817/A), and mixed-case letters which frequently appear in government drafting paragraphs.
